Volunteer Drivers
A Volunteer Driveris a person who uses their car to pick up a young person from adesignated safe waiting place (for example a Youth Cafe run by the Bradford Youth Service) and drives the young person over to their host. The Volunteer Driver then introduces the young person to their host(s). Volunteer Drivers are a new valuable addition to our team and have been welcomed by both Young People and Hosts.
Why do we have Volunteer Drivers?
- In the earlier days of Bradford Nightstop we found that young people using Nightstop for the first time found it difficult to reach our hosts on public transport. We therefore started to use taxis to transport young people from the centre of Bradford or Keighley to their hosts.
- In response to young people's commentswe have recently developed a new Volunteer Driver scheme. Before we introduced this new role we looked at the way this worked in other parts of the country and we were able to roll out our scheme from October 2007.
