The Purpose of Our Education Work

The Purpose of Our Education Work

The primary aim of our education work is to raise awareness about youth homelessness and the work of Bradford Nightstop so that young people in the Bradford District are aware that sleeping 'rough' is very dangerous and is something which they should never consider doing. The message which is communicated loudly and clearly to young people is that if they suddenly find themselves homeless they should seek help and advice.

We offer free preventative education sessions to schools, colleges, PRUs, E2E groups, training groups and youth groups.

The aims of these sessions are :

  • To allow young people to explore the issues surrounding youth homelessness in an interactive fashion using individual, paired and group work.

  • To challenge the stereotypes often associated with homelessness and homeless people.

  • To signpost sources of help, support and advice.

Bradford Nightstop's education service has been funded by the Reaching Communities section of The Big Lottery. As such, we have certain agreed outcomes which we are working towards achieving. These outcomes are as follows:

  • To prevent young people from sleeping 'rough'.
  • To give young people an understanding of household budgeting so they can be aware of the costs involved when living alone.
  • Give better access to support and advice on housing options and related issues for both young people and professionals working with young people.
  • Increase community awareness of youth homelessness and encourage more active participation in voluntary work.
  • Give teachers, youth workers and college staff access to high quality resources both specific to Bradford Nightstop and more generally.
